Delight others to make the world a better place

The world is becoming more stressful day by day. Our workplace, affected by the multiple pressures of work, also creates stress which many of us find difficult to cope with. How do we address this? How do we contribute to reducing stress and making this world a better place? Having worked with various colleges and teams in my profession, I’m still amazed that some of the most effective methods of reducing one’s stress and of improving one’s life are actually elemental. One of the basic lessons my parents taught me as a child: Instead of focusing on your own happiness, focus on someone else for a change. It will make the world a better place. We sometimes do forget this idea due to its simplicity.

I’ve tried to apply this piece of wisdom into my life for as long as I can recall. I would say that the results are almost always flawless. It seems that anytime I go out of my way to make someone delighted, it ends up making my day brighter and making me feel so much better. The nicest things in life aren’t “things”. They are in fact feelings that go together with acts of kindness and good gestures.

Whether it is leaving a review on trip advisor, letting a manager know when you get great customer service, complimenting a co-worker, thanking your spouse, giving someone a big tip, liking or sharing someone’s social media post, taking time to write a note of congratulations for a job well done, a friendly phone call, or any number of other possibilities, making someone delighted is always a noble idea.

Acts of kindness and goodwill are essentially great. The old saying “Giving is its own reward” is undoubtedly true. Your reward for being kind and making someone delighted is the warm, positive feelings that always go along with your efforts.

Today onwards, every day,  think of somebody you’d like to make delighted and enjoy your rewards.
