Bonding With The Roots: A Visit to My Maternal Village Rameshpur

Image
For many of us living in cities, visiting our ancestral villages is like taking a trip back in time. The serene atmosphere, fresh air, and rustic charm that’s often missing from our daily lives, can transport us to a world that we might have only heard about from our grandparents. Recently, I got a chance to visit my maternal village with my cousin Harshita and it turned out to be a rejuvenating experience. Visiting my maternal village Rameshpur is always a very enjoyable experience for me. The small village in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque and breathtaking destinations for me. It is situated near Adishakti Maa Bhuvaneshwari Sidhpeet in Sanguda, Bilkhet near Satpuli town in Pauri Garhwal. We usually take a train from Delhi to Kotdwara from where Taxis and buses are available for Satpuli or Banghat. A local taxi then takes us to Tilia or Adi Shakti Maa Bhuvaneshwari temple. From there Rameshpur is around a kilometer of a steep clim

Visiting Arunachal Pradesh: The Land of the Dawn-lit-Mountains

Image
Tourist spots all over the world are beautiful in their own way and every place is distinctive for what it has to offer. They offer us great experiences, delightful moments, and spectacular views. While nature plays its game at its will in several locations, mankind had also been playing its own game. Very few places have the best of the whole thing and Arunachal Pradesh popularly known as the ‘Land of the Dawn-lit-Mountains’ is one such place. In Arunachal Pradesh, you wonder if nature has been more kind to some parts of the world. The state is rich with scenic beauty that offers relaxation and rejuvenation. It offers you peace and action. Places of worship or wildlife sanctuaries, you name it and the state has it.  Arunachal Pradesh finds its mention in the literature of Kalika Purana and the great Hindu Epic, The Mahabharata. It is considered to be the Prabhu Mountains of the Puranas. Hindu mythical legends say that Arunachal Pradesh was the place where sage Parshuram washed away

Tested Ways That Will Boost Your Self-Respect

Image
As the world becomes more complicated, competitive, and challenging, self-respect becomes a very important aspect. Every day on social media I see several posts from people all over the world experiencing a lack of inner strength to get them through their day, due to low self-respect. In this post, I attempt to share some tested ways to boost Self-Respect. Developing a positive self-concept, or healthy self-respect plays a major role in success and happiness in a person’s life. A strong positive self-concept allows people to open themselves to new opportunities and challenges, both personally and professionally.   Actually, self-respect has nothing to do with your achievements or with other people. Self-Respect simply results from two things concerning your inner relationship with yourself:   • Opinion of oneself and,   • Treatment of oneself   The way we talk about ourselves is very important in everything we do.  Self-Respect is an effect of following important core practic

Why practical education system is required in India rather than a bookish one?

The principal output from a human is action (that does include speaking). Many physical skills can only be learned by doing and practicing.  Can you imagine someone training you to swim within four walls of a classroom? It is simply not possible. You have to get into the water to learn to swim. Some roles require honed actions which become skills (teacher, musician, dancer, engineer, etc.) and some are more cerebral and they may need more symbolic knowledge to be proficient, but neither side can claim the knowledge high ground. Theoretical knowledge of skill-based subjects needs to be supported by practice. So that students can apply it for practical purposes. Practical work familiarises students with tools and equipment that they will be required to use. Since practical assignments are often carried out in groups it inculcates social values and values like sharing, cooperation, team spirit, compassion, etc. Students who complete education and start working often find that they a

How Not To Make The Small Stuff Happen?

Image
As human beings, we make a big deal of some small events without even realizing it. Our entire day is spent making selections about how we are living, what do we say, what do we eat and what do we do; but when we’re so engrossed in the minor stuff, we often miss the major stuff and that can have harsh consequences on our mind, body, and soul. When we get caught in our daily minor struggles, it makes us forget to see back and appreciate the things we’re lucky to have. “It's often the mundane incidents that reveal how vastly different human temperaments can be”, says Michael D. Robinson, Ph.D., a professor of psychology at North Dakota State University. Some people swoop up their accidentally dropped keys with no complaints and go along their merry way and there are some who, more often than not, can't pick them up without cursing or letting out a big, dejected sigh. Real issues start arising when we overreact in the circumstances than needed. Obviously, we all have been t

Delight others to make the world a better place

The world is becoming more stressful day by day. Our workplace, affected by the multiple pressures of work, also creates stress which many of us find difficult to cope with. How do we address this? How do we contribute to reducing stress and making this world a better place? Having worked with various colleges and teams in my profession, I’m still amazed that some of the most effective methods of reducing one’s stress and of improving one’s life are actually elemental. One of the basic lessons my parents taught me as a child: Instead of focusing on your own happiness, focus on someone else for a change. It will make the world a better place. We sometimes do forget this idea due to its simplicity. I’ve tried to apply this piece of wisdom into my life for as long as I can recall. I would say that the results are almost always flawless. It seems that anytime I go out of my way to make someone delighted, it ends up making my day brighter and making me feel so much better. The nicest th

Make and Keep New Year’s Resolutions

Image
Well again, it’s that time of the year. The time when we think about our last year and seek (to) a more desirable time ahead. So this sounds like the perfect time for advancement. Are you thinking to make a resolution for the coming year? But feel tedious, No? Yes. People fail to meet their New Year's Resolutions due to a variety of reasons. The most common reason is a lack of motivation or trying to work on too many resolutions at once. Setting vague goals also automatically makes people lose momentum. When people fail to work at their resolution once, they often lose motivation completely and end up being frustrated and disappointed. They then give up until next year. But personal progress is vital. Why not make this year a bit different from the rest? You just simply need to choose the right resolution for yourself, plan accordingly, and execute them in steps. Here’s how – New Year resolutions have to be attainable and meaningful. A resolution may fail if it is based on some
